Because it’s way easier (and ego fulfilling) to do things that make us feel good about ourselves, rather than doing this one thing we need to do, in order to actually step up.
It takes a lot to identify and accept there is something to change, and then to take action to tackle it and actually move forward, instead of wandering around the bush.
That’s where I see the future of natural selection for us, as a specie.
Being able to identify a mismatch between our behaviour and our environment, and adjust our actions to adapt to it.
Consciously.
This implies being able to silence our ego,
and being more empathetic.
It seems hard to imagine when seeing ourselves exterminating our own home, constantly chasing mental distractions, and belittling everything that actually matters for our future..
For the sake of.. being “cool”?
But I keep faith.
Nature is the strongest and most balanced force there is.
And whether we are still part of it or not in the future, it will thrive.
The question is, how and when will we start being aware that transformation is not an option, but a necessity for us to survive as a specie.
We talk about colonizing Mars, and the technology to do it will be in our hands soon.
It’s an extraordinary thing.
And an extraordinary distraction from the real challenge we are facing.
Which is that we are still too ego/pleasure oriented, to actually thrive, in harmony with our environment.
Instead of destroying it and moving to another planet to do the same thing there.
We should get wiser about what is inside us, before chasing our quick fixes outside.
P.S.: If Earth existed for 24h, proportionally, humanity would represent a few seconds of those 24h.
We are the only beings alive to be aware of it.
And we have the knowledge and skills to decide whether we will still be part of it for the next few minutes, or just an anecdotic curiosity that briefly happened and disappeared in a blink.
