(Note: written from Buka Buka Island, laying down on the bed of our first bungalow)

No dinner, no cake, no candle, no gifts, no family.

[Edit: I am with Ladiina, and she (almost) started to cry after reading “no cake” and “no family”. Actually, she brought me a doughnut and candles on the island, but it was after I posted this. Also, she is definitely like my little sister in Indonesia (and doing an outstanding job here with me) ]

This year, I decided to spend my birthday on the island.

I have been working the whole day.

A friend called me (yes, we have signal), and told me: “You should take some time to enjoy, it’s your birthday.”

I am indeed doing what I enjoy the most.

Being back here is a complete immersion in what truly matters for me, at the moment: the process of developing this island from scratch.

As I write those words, a heavy rain just started on the island.

It’s great, free supply for our water tanks!

We recently started the construction of the second bungalow, and already finished the foundations.

The first one is functional, but not fully finished yet.

There are so many things I want to improve, before I feel comfortable having guests inside.

However, it has a bed, solar electricity, a nice sunset view terrace, and a panoramic view on the ocean right from the bed.

I know I should take some time to appreciate what’s already great, but I can’t help being obsessed with what needs to be better.

We’re getting there.

Starting my 29th year here means a lot to me.

It’s the first time in my life that I live in a house I got built myself.

From the idea, to the actual building, on the beach.

It’s also the first time that I am working on such a long term, and potentially impactful project.

I realized how long the way is,
from where I am at today.

I also took a decision, because it’s my birthday, and I want to give away something to the World.

Starting from today, and until we are ready to receive paying guests,

You can all stay on the island with me, for FREE.

You can bring a tent, sleep in the boat, share the bungalow with extra mattress, we will find a way.

I made a simple on-boarding process for whoever wants to visit.

There is no catch, I will just ask you to cover your own expenses (flight, boat trip, food..), and will handle the logistics and accommodation.

So if you want to come to the island, just let me know.

Also, we are still raising funds for the solar powered desalination system, on Indiegogo.

If you want to send me a gift, click here. I will use the funds for the desalination plant, and to develop the rest of the island if we raise more than expected.

Thank you in advance.
