Imagine you want to arrive at JFK airport before 6PM.

What do you do?

You plan the trip, check on Google Maps, and choose when to leave accordingly.

And you do it. You go there.

In this case, success is when you make it on time for your check in.

Simple, right?

So what happens when you create a business?

Being an entrepreneur became the “cool thing to do” in this century.

It’s great, because it makes people responsible for their own future.
It pushes them to take action and drive their life where they really want.

But here’s the thing.

Most of the people have no clue what they want to do.

Being an entrepreneur is not an end, it’s a mean

Entrepreneurship is a way to achieve something.

Trying to be a successful entrepreneur with no idea what you want to achieve,

is like trying to cross the finish line while running into circles in your own apartment.

You can’t cross the finish line, if there is no finish line.

Now, you’d be right to argue that success is about the way rather than the destination.

But to be on the right way, you need to follow a direction.

Decide to go somewhere

Because if you don’t know where you want to go,
everywhere you’ll get will look like you’re lost.

Entrepreneurship is not a straight line you can draw
from the bottom to the top.

It’s a bunch of wrong turns, dead ends,
and crashes.

And as much as you’ll try to find success on the way,
it won’t ever happen unless you know where you are heading to.

Ask yourself the question:

What does success look like to you?

Success can be associated with anything you want,
and don’t want.

It could be about money,
about how you feel,
about who you spend your time with.

The key to be successful, is to make sure you know exactly what does success look like to you.

Think about it, don’t overthink it

What matters is for you to know what it looks like to go from A to B.

It’s fine if you don’t like B anymore once you reach it.

But reaching it, is what success looks like to you,
at this time.

In the end, there’s no finish line

Nobody on Earth has ever reached a point where they felt:
“This is it, this is the finish line. Now I’m done. Bye.”

There is always a next adventure.

Even Jack Ma, the richest man of China, after resigning from his position of CEO at Alibaba, is now heading to a new destination: becoming a teacher.

Don’t focus on being successful

Focus on doing one thing, and become great at it.

With a clear direction in mind,
and a laser focus on execution,

Success will just be a consequence.

Something you’ll feel, some days,
as you are on your way.

Once you know what success looks like to you,
feeling successful is what will happen, on your way to get there.
